Charles Chen now an Advisory Board member for the Cyber Intelligence Initiative at The Institute of World Politics

The Institute of World Politics is delighted to welcome Charles Chen to our Advisory Board for our Cyber Intelligence Initiative.  Mr. Chen brings to this role a wealth of experience and will make a great addition to the board. 

Mr. Chen will bringing his expertise directly to our students by teaching the following Cyber Intelligence Virtual Seminars:

  • Cyber Intelligence Professional (October 7, 2020)
  • Technology Underpinning Cyber Intelligence (October 21, 2020)
  • Enterprise Threat Modeling (January 27, 2021)

Charles Chen currently serves as the Director of the Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technology Office for the State Department, under the guidance and directives of the Principal Deputy CIO & the CTO.  He leads a team of highly technical engineers and architects in developing leading-edge technologies and delivering innovative solutions to satisfy mission needs. 

Originally from California, Mr. Chen has nearly 30 years of experience in I.T. infrastructure and cybersecurity and served for the federal government for the past 10 years.  He has founded an international telecommunications company, with specializations in global infrastructure, cybersecurity, data analytics, cloud computing, LoRaWAN IoT, and blockchain distributed computing.  Mr. Chen earned his Bachelor’s degree from UCLA, and his Master’s degree from Northwestern University.  He is a council member for the University of Washington Pacific Northwest Cybersecurity Leadership Council and possesses numerous I.T. certifications, including CISSP, CISM, CEH, CCNP, and MCSE.
